Episode No. 22: Pat Garofalo, Minnesota State Representative

This interview is with Pat Garofalo, a Republican from District 36B in Minnesota. He’s Chair of the Education Finance Committee in the Minnesota State House. Education is a huge aspect of Minnesota’s history and daily life — the state is actually where the charter school movement began, back in the late 1980s, and towards the end of this interview, you’ll hear some numbers about the percentage of the state budget dedicated to education. It’s staggering — but also awesome.

Here, we talk about some upcoming legislation in the State House, as well as a few other developments and aspects of the gig.

If you’re interested in more of Garofalo’s thoughts on education, but prefer the visual medium for context, check out this video (also do a YouTube search for ‘Pat Garofalo Minnesota;’ there’s a ton):

What’s This All About?

This is a blog and podcast series about the work we all do: the highs, the lows, the effectiveness, the intrigue, the models, the double speak, and the passion. The point is to have discussions with people in those fields about their life and experiences. And hey, sometimes the stories might be funny, too. In the spring of 2013, the new posts started to fade, but you can find them all on iTunes.
