Episode No. 27: Richard Lee Colvin, Education Journalist

Richard Lee Colvin is the Executive Director of Education Sector, noted as an “independent think tank that challenges conventional thinking in education policy.”

Colvin was also an education-focused journalist for over three decades (here’s an article he wrote for the Los Angeles Times in 1999), and created The Hechinger Report along the course of his career.

Here, we discuss the current education policy climate, his work with Education Sector, and some of the biggest stories he covered while on the education beat.

If interested in seeing moving images of Richard, here’s Part 1 of a three-part YouTube discussion on educations and unions in Providence, entitled “Unlikely Allies:”

What’s This All About?

This is a blog and podcast series about the work we all do: the highs, the lows, the effectiveness, the intrigue, the models, the double speak, and the passion. The point is to have discussions with people in those fields about their life and experiences. And hey, sometimes the stories might be funny, too. In the spring of 2013, the new posts started to fade, but you can find them all on iTunes.
