Blaine Kortemeyer is the deputy director of education and interpretation at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. In that role, he helps to hire and train all the interpreters for the park — i.e. the people who will shape your experience as a visitor to one of the most famous National Parks Services sites.

Kortemeyer speaks passionately here about the role of the National Parks Service, what you can expect at Mount Rushmore, and even which direction his office at the park faces.

What’s This All About?

This is a blog and podcast series about the work we all do: the highs, the lows, the effectiveness, the intrigue, the models, the double speak, and the passion. The point is to have discussions with people in those fields about their life and experiences. And hey, sometimes the stories might be funny, too. In the spring of 2013, the new posts started to fade, but you can find them all on iTunes.
